Side Lake was insanely cold, yet insanely fun! The whole weekend was a story in it's own right!

So we trekked out around 5pm from Island Lake, IL, not knowing what to expect in Side Lake, MN. We knew we'd see people we knew, and meet new people, and have fun, but we didn't know the extent of the adventure we were about to embark on.

After a stressful drive including a lot of snow where we couldn't see a damn thing, we arrived in Side Lake ~9 hours after leaving home. We were immediately ambushed by many Caintmakit members as well as Mr. Ian (insert French last name). We drank Hot Damn and Leinie's with these gentlemen, before going to bed around four thirty in the morning.

This provided a hard time waking up in the morning. We woke up at around a quarter to ten and realized that McDonald's (20 miles away) only served till 10:30. We had to get there for the McGriddle v. McMuffin challenge (Ian and Zarr competing. 5McGriddles against 6 McMuffins, who could eat the fastest.). I was on a fucking mission. I was flying down Rte. 5. Now, considering the town is so small, it snows all the fucking time, and everyone has trucks, they don't plow the roads. The Audi was fine. Until a corner came up. It got a little squirrely so I eased off. Coming up to the stop sign of the major highway, down to about 40mph now, I applied the break. Oops. Sliding. No control. With much cross traffic, I decided we couldn't make the left of the divided highway, and try to go right. It went right, but only slightly. I aimed for the median ditch and as soon as we hit, cut the wheel. We managed to escape alive, but alas, we were stuck. After many people stopped, to which Zoah said, "We're not from around here." and, "We're just taking in the scenery.", the police showed up and called a tow truck. We got out, and managed to get to McDonald's.......for lunch.

We then attempted to find the lake ourselves. Being that there were about ten very large lakes, we had no idea where we were going, but got to see some beautiful scenery. Finally, we ran into the 'Burban with Skip and followed him. It was insane there. A frozen lake, with cars racing on it. It's like a road of ice. People driving to and from the course.......on the lake. It was cool as hell. The course was pretty tough with some hair-pin turns. The WRX with custom studded tires ruled the day. But the Mustang was great too. There was even an old Chevette that anyone could drive, you just had to pitch in a buck.

On to dinner at Bimbo's Octagon. There only claim to fame, other than the slowest service I have ever seen in my fucking life, was "The Big Sturgeon". It was a beef patty, with a breakfast sausage patty, ham, bacon, and cheese. This wasn't enough for Ian. He had to have an appetizer and an extra beef patty on the mamouth sandwich. Overall, dinner was nothing to write home about.

Then the fun came. After nightfall, a select few went back to the track on the lake. It was insane! A bunch of vehicles driving at night, on a frozen lake, drifting huge turns! Nuts! I ran the Audi into the snow banks about five or six times and had to get pushed/towed out. But no damage was made.

Sunday morning we went to McDonald's on the way out for breakfast. After eating two McGriddles, Zarr decided to take Zoah's challenge of five in one sitting. He had some bumps, but managed to polish of the five off in a blazing 27 minutes.

The drive home was a rough one for a while due to frozen snow and ice in the wheels throwing the balance off. It felt like the car was a giant sexual device. Ate at Hardee's, listed to some old bitch talk about getting "slammed" (it was in reference of how busy they were, but we laughed it up!). And got home in around eight and a half hours. It was a fun trip, and I look forward to next year!
